About the category sponsor

The Reach story begins in 1995, with our founder Heather Batey. As a qualified, experienced Occupational Therapist, Heather understood that brain injury rehabilitation worked. That it delivered better outcomes for TBI patients – as long as it was delivered in the right way. But the limitations of the NHS meant that this treatment was often delivered in a hospital or residential care setting – an environment that isn’t appropriate to helping a patient fully recover their independence. There had to be a more effective way to rehabilitate patients. There was. Providing rehabilitation and counselling at home. Reach. A way of providing expert clinical treatment in clients’ homes to maximise their rehabilitation potential, and give them back their much-needed independence. It’s like the old saying goes. Give someone a fish, and they’ll be fed for a day. Teach them how to fish, they’ll feed themselves for the rest of their life. Reach’s story is one of teaching patients how to manage their own recovery. How to push themselves to achieve as much pre-injury function as possible. How to regain their own independence – and retain it. It’s a story with thousands of positive outcomes. And it’s a story that’s set to continue for years to come.

Healthcare is a field in which the phrase ‘above and beyond’ is regularly and rightly used to describe the selfless dedication of those working within the sector. This award looks to recognise the commitment of individuals, teams or whole organisations in truly going that extra mile, going ‘above and beyond’ their line of work to achieve something remarkable.
